2010 UPPER CLASS 19“WEIHAI CUP”HOBIE WORLDS

HOBIE 16 World Championships is a world-class famous sailing competition which is organized by International Hobie Class Association. The competition was approved by the International Sailing Federation. The first HOBIE 16 World Championships was held in Hawaii， USA , in 1976.Thereafter, once every two years, Hobie 16 World Championships have been successfully held 18 times.

In 2009,with the approval of General Administration of Sport of China ,on behalf of Weihai City, the Weihai City Government applied to IHCA for the right to host 2010 UPPER CLASS 19 “WEIHAI CUP” HOBIE WORLDS .After a series of verifications by IHCA and ISAF, on 19^th February 2010, the Weihai Government succeeded in biding for this world class event and on 15^th April 2010,the General Administration of Sport of China issued an official reply that 2010 UPPER CLASS 19 “WEIHAI CUP” HOBIE WORLDS will be held at Weihai International Bathing Beach from 15^th August 2010 to 31^st August 2010.

It is the first time to hold such a grand event in Asia. And also it will be one of the top international events in China following 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2010 Shanghai World Expo. By then, there will be more than 150 crews and about 400 sailors from nearly 30 countries including the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany, Brazil, Japan, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, the Fiji Islands, Spain, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, and Australia, to take part in the contest in youth groups, women's groups, masters, the grand masters and open worlds.

To obtain the bid of this event will create profound significance upon improving the city brand image and the city international popularity.Therefore, Weihai Government will devote every citizen’s effort to organize this event, strictly following international race organizing standards and principles. Because this world event means sport as well as recreation, “Marine Leisure Palace, Global Livable City” has been recognized as the city promotion slogan, “Set Sail to the World!” as the Worlds’ promotion slogan. 

Every successive Hobie 16 World Championships had attracted more than100 national and international mainstream media units. The media units have conducted a comprehensive follow-up reports for the competition. This high-level sports event usually gains sponsoring support from some international top brand enterprises such as Coca Cola, Samsung, Air Pacific, and so on. Weihai Hongjian Real Estate Company Ltd., was lucky to be nominated as the presenting sponsor of this event by the Committee ,and the Worlds was titled with the name of “UPPER CLASS 19”. The splendid race and brand promoting will assist in creating the event to be the world's most dynamic, most valuable and most influential recreational sailing sport.

At the meanwhile, the event will also be a magnificent pageant which will jointly integrate many industries such as tourism economy, culture, leisure and fashion. The beach beer festival, grand opening ceremony, Gulf Marine Economic Summit, international boat show, historic pilgrimage sailing, windsurfing passion concert, colorful closing ceremony and other activities will realize the great combination between culture art and top sport perfectly.

It is believed that 2010 UPPER CLASS 19“WEIHAI CUP” HOBIE WORLDS would be the most eye-grabbing event by means of Beijing press conference、Ocean Economy Forum、Grand opening and closing ceremony ,etc.By then Weihai city will be filled with passion and vigor because of the presence of so many professional and energetic sailors from all over the world, and the thousand-meter-coastline of the city will become more charming with the colorful moving sails being decorated. There is no doubt that after the event Weihai city will affect the world with a new name card of “Marine Leisure Palace, Global Livable City”.
